Facebook caplok Competitors Foursquare

Facebook increasingly expand its Internet empire. Most recent corporate actions is to acquire location-based service providers who are also competitors Foursquare, namely Gowalla.

CNN Money reports that quoted on Saturday (3/12/2011) mentions, the source of internal Gowalla states that all employees of a company based in Austin - including the founder Josh Williams - will be moving offices to the headquarters of Facebook in Palo Alto , California, United States.

"This is the perfect mix," said the source.

He added that their first task was to develop later on Facebook Timeline feature with an injection of technology and services they have.

"Vision Gowalla is about telling people, while the vision up to the Timeline related to stories about important moments in the lives of users," he added.

Launched in 2009, Gowalla headquartered in Austin is competing with Foursquare. Apparently, in the realm of competition was won by Foursquare.

Gowalla then look for alternative ways, to change its services into travel guide. His site received funding of about USD 10 million from investors, including Greylock Partners and Founders Fund.

Facebook itself saw the acquisition is a great way to build a talented resources for the company. Social networking giant is planning to annex 20 companies this year, up from the previous year 10 companies.

Yet both Facebook and Gowalla declined to comment officially. Both are still silent response to the report.
