RI-Malaysia Connected 'Toll Road' Underwater Optics

Construction of fiber optic cables under the sea along the 400 miles across Batam-Dumai-Melaka (BDM) and linking Indonesia and Malaysia directly, finally completed in late 2011.

Submarine cable network project worth U.S. $ 7 million which is done by Huawei Marine Network (HMN) since February 2011 and is a prestigious project was initiated by PT XL Axiata Tbk with Telekom Malaysia Berhad and PT Mora Telematics Indonesia (Moratel).

Senior VP of Business Strategy & Partnership XL, Johnson Chan, explains the partnership in the development of BDM Cable System will support the goals XL provides better data services to its customers.

"Currently demand for data services primarily for mobile Internet is growing rapidly. Customers demand better internet access, faster, and reliable," he said in a written statement on Friday (30/12/2011).
